The Christmas Party
Table dancing, fake hair extensions (okay they were mine), drunken stage dives, conga lines (with roving hands- oh, er) dirty dancing with your head of department oh yeah, it's just another HC School Christmas Party... and to think I'd even considered not going.
The four Canadians, Matt, Simon (who teaches Science), Susan (T.A.), Terry (Susan's man) all crammed into our little apartment where we indulged ourselves in a little of Mark's special cocktails, Tim Tam eating and metaphorical student bashing before turning up fashionably late. We knew we were in for a good night when we realised that the bar tab had run out five minutes after our arrival. Stressed out teachers and drink do not a good mix make.
It was a brilliant night and it was great to see everyone behaving so differently to their Sir and Miss counterparts at school. It was so good that ex members of staff turned up as well and I guess that's what tempted a group of Year 11 boys to crash the party. Luckily the boys were ferried out by the bar staff before the drunken teachers realised otherwise there would have been a massive bar fight (now THAT would have been funny). A basic formula decided what our behaviour was like:

How long you've been teaching x How crappy your job is x How much drink you've consumed = A VERY good time
In England, Australians have a pretty bad reputation for being a little loose in the morals department, drinking too much and partying too hard. Mark and I looked like absolute pussy cats compared to some of the normally demure English roses we teach with. Weeny little skirts (are you sure that's not a top?), skin-tight clevage busting halter necks, exposed g-strings and knee high go-go boots were favoured by the ladies (bulging eyes and drooling favoured by the men). As we watched our colleagues gyrating in threesome and sometimes foursome sandwichs, Mark's comment of "I wouldn't get between them without contraception" was so fitting with the mood of the night.
I've never been to a Christmas party before and if everyone is as good as his one, I may be tempted to stay on in Hastings just a little longer...

This photo just about sums it all up
